Welcome to our first episode of Creative Research, where we provide tips for struggling members in Shakr Designer Program by analyzing existing ads on Facebook and Instagram. First market in the series is travel.
Creative Focus
Three big branches in terms of travel ads are as follow: Discount promotions, services, and encouraging direct participation.
1.Discount Promotions
The most amount of ads in terms of travel was for discount promotions. It may for specific seasons and destinations. A lot of video designs emphasized “SALE” text in the design, with specific discount rate to come along with it. It is important to convey central messages that you want to tell the customers. Also try to use specific wordings, like “Book now!”, or “Click to book now!”

2.Services
Most designs also try to refresh viewers awareness on brand recognition. This could include mileage, exclusives for business class, free Wi-Fi, or free stay at a hotel. Adding logo or brand name can also help viewers naturally associate the brand with the video.

3.Participation
There were also high rate of video ads that invited customers’ participation. This could include writing customer reviews, downloading mobile apps for easier online check-ins. Try to bring out positive image by inviting customer participation. Also, try to make videos in customers’ point of view.

Design Focus
Visual Tips
Try to use images that invokes travel, like airplanes, palm trees, and passports. Icons of famous landmarks can also help. Try to use images that fit the type of promotions.
Tone & Manner
Use the color that pops, which can invoke cheery emotions for a trip.
Call to Action
In travel, it is very important to invoke customer actions. In case of vertical videos for Instagram Stories, try to invoke customers to swipe up or tap next.
